The Future: Environmental Sustainability in the Global Steel Industry - 8 February 2010

We are delighted to announce that the SBB is holding a conference on Environmental Sustainability in the Global Steel Industry on May 20-21 2010 in Washington DC.

Steel Business Briefing, the world’s premier global steel news, information and pricing service, is pleased to announce Thomas Gibson’s participation in the SBB Green Steel Summit. Gibson is CEO & President of the Washington DC based American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

The AISI serves as the voice of the North American steel industry in the public policy arena and advances the case for steel in the marketplace as the preferred material of choice. AISI also plays a lead role in the development and application of new steels and steelmaking technology. AISI is comprised of 23 member companies, including integrated and electric furnace steelmakers, and 138 associate and affiliate members who are suppliers to or customers of the steel industry. AISI's member companies represent approximately 75 percent of both U.S. and North American steel capacity.

The iron and steel industry is responsible for at least 5% of global energyrelated carbon dioxide emissions. This ground breaking conference is intended to highlight ways in which steel producers, consumers as well as industry suppliers are preparing themselves for environmental sustainability in the global steel industry. The conference will cover a wide range of topics and should be attended by those concerned about the future of the global iron and steel industry and its impact on the global environment.
